Education Support Fund

The ACT State Emergency Service Volunteers Association (ACTSESVA) is committed to enhancing professional and personal development of its members not only for their individual benefit but for the benefit of the ACT SES and the broader community.

Among ACTSES objectives is to support training and education that assists with volunteers’ ability to provide a high level of service to the community in times of emergency. Where appropriate ACTSESVA will assist individuals by providing funding assistance for attendance at relevant short courses, training programs, forums, conferences or components of vocational and tertiary education courses. In 2023, ACTSESVA will provide up to $5,000 per individual to assist with education expenses in relevant courses that contribute to the skills, knowledge and capacity of volunteers to contribute to the ACT SES. A total of $25,000 has been made available for the

fund in 2023. Applicants may nominate courses, including short courses, where it can be demonstrated that the course is relevant and of value to the SES.

Grant Applications

One of the objectives of ACTSESVA is to process suggestions from ACTSES volunteers for equipment and amenities and support attendance at forums, conferences or training that assists with their development so in turn they can effectively assist the community for search and rescue activites and emergency events such as floods and storms. Although only members can apply for grants, any funding provided can be distributed to benefit all ACTSES volunteers.

It is the current Board’s aim that the funding and providing of grants to ACTSES Volunteers is to be one of ACTSESVA’s main activities. To provide volunteers with extra funding the Board has undertaken regular raffles. This activity has shown good results.
